Weight loss will vary from patient to patient and is greatly determined by how much excess weight you carry prior to the operation. To maximise the effect of surgery it is important to consider the operation as one part of a multi-disciplinary program that aims to restore you to a healthy weight and lifestyle habits
Postoperative weight loss is often described as percentage excess body weight loss. It is generally accepted that gastric bypass effects more weight loss than gastric banding with sleeve gastrectomy approaching the results of gastric bypass. Many would argue, however that the results beyond 5 years are the same between all three.
